Environment Audit Framework: 
The Environment Audit Framework is envisaged as a key instrument to strengthen compliance with major environmental legislations, including: 
• Environment (Protection) Act, 1986
• Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1974
• Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1981
• Forest Conservation Act, 1980
• Wild Life (Protection) Act, 1972, and rules framed thereunder. 

Environmental Impact Assessment: 
• Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) is the process of examining the environmental, social and health effects of a proposed development.
• Environmental Clearance is mandatory for certain developmental projects listed under the Environment Impact Assessment (EIA) Notification of 2006, which is issued under the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986. 

Significance: 

The establishment of a dedicated agency for environmental audits is expected to improve monitoring, reporting accuracy and regulatory compliance, thereby contributing to better environmental outcomes.
