DIKSHA Portal: Login, QR Textbooks, Teacher Courses and Certificates
DIKSHA portal explained: who runs diksha.gov.in, how students and teachers register, how QR-coded textbooks and NISHTHA courses work, and how to fix common login errors.
The DIKSHA portal (diksha.gov.in, short for Digital Infrastructure for Knowledge Sharing) is the national school-education platform of NCERT under the Ministry of Education, with a matching DIKSHA app. Students open it for videos and practice linked to their textbooks, and teachers use it for training courses that end in a certificate. Most visitors want one of three things: to register or log in, to open the content behind a textbook QR code or to finish a course such as NISHTHA and find its certificate.
The usual misunderstanding is that DIKSHA is one central website with one login run from Delhi. It’s a shared platform: each state, UT and board, CBSE included, puts its own courses and content on it, and many teacher accounts are created by the state, not by the teacher. That is why a password or role problem is often solved by your state’s DIKSHA team rather than by the national helpdesk.
DIKSHA portal at a glance
DIKSHA was formally launched by Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu on 5 September 2017, which is Teachers’ Day in India. It is now part of the ministry’s PM e-Vidya programme for digital learning.

What DIKSHA does and who it is for
DIKSHA covers the whole school span, from foundational literacy and numeracy to senior secondary, the full range of school education, which is why it shows up in plans under Samagra Shiksha and in state teacher-training calendars. Its parts serve different readers:
- Students and parents browse content by board, medium, class and subject, or reach a lesson straight from a textbook QR code.
- Teachers and head teachers take self-paced courses for professional development and earn certificates.
- States and boards upload their own content and courses, which CIET-NCERT periodically validates against its guidelines.
- Content creators with an assigned role build lessons and courses on the website.
The PIB factsheet of 28 June 2026 counts 7,687 Energised Textbooks and 3.67 lakh pieces of e-content on the platform. Uttar Pradesh has the most registered users of any state, at 26.80 lakh.
How to register and log in on the DIKSHA portal
You can browse most content without logging in. An account becomes necessary for courses, progress tracking and certificates. The help pages list three ways to register:
- Self sign-up with a mobile number or email ID.
- Google sign-in, using a Google account.
- State login, where your state or organisation decides to create or permit accounts.
To sign up yourself:
- Open diksha.gov.in and click Login / Register at the top of the page.
- Choose to register with your mobile number or email ID, or use Google sign-in.
- Complete the verification sent to your mobile or email and set a password.
- Complete your profile, choosing your role, board, medium, class and location, so the content matches your needs.
If your state created your account, you’ll get a welcome message on the registered mobile or email with a Set Password link. The help page names the SMS senders as HP-INDKSH or BZ-DIKSHA; click that link, set a password and log in.
Resetting a forgotten password
The sign-in FAQ gives the exact flow:
- Go to the sign-in page and click Forgot password.
- Enter your registered mobile number or email address and click Reset.
- Enter the OTP you receive and click Submit.
- Type a new password and click Reset. You’ll land on the DIKSHA Library page.
How to open textbook content with a QR code
NCERT and many state textbooks carry printed QR codes on their pages. These Energised Textbooks link the printed chapter to videos, interactive material and teacher guides on DIKSHA.
- On the app. Open the DIKSHA app and tap the Scan icon, then point the camera at the QR code. The linked textbook content opens on your phone.
- On the website. Use the Enter QR code box, type the 6-digit code printed with the QR and click Submit. The FAQ describes this for course QR codes, and it takes you straight to the linked page without a search.
- Without a code. In the app, tap Library to see textbooks for the board, medium and class set in your profile.
The FAQ recommends scanning through the DIKSHA app itself rather than a third-party scanner app. For the books themselves, see this guide to NCERT textbooks.
DIKSHA portal for teachers: courses, NISHTHA and certificates
The DIKSHA training portal is not a separate site; teacher courses sit inside the same platform, under the Courses section. They are self-paced and can be followed on the website, the mobile app or the desktop app, and downloaded for offline use.
NISHTHA (National Initiative for School Heads’ and Teachers’ Holistic Advancement) is NCERT’s best-known course series. The ministry moved it online on DIKSHA in October 2020 for elementary teachers, and about 24 lakh teachers had completed it by June 2021, with certificates generated automatically. States add their own teacher professional development (TPD) modules alongside it.
To join and finish a course:
- Log in and open the Courses tab, or search for the course with filters.
- Open the course details page and click Join Course.
- Work through the modules; progress shows at the top right of the course page.
- When the course page shows Your progress 100%, the course is complete. The overview page says a certificate is issued on completion or on reaching the required score in the course assessment.
- To see all finished courses, open Profile and go to Course(s) Attended.
Courses you’ve joined appear under My Courses. If the platform asks you to log in again midway through a course, check that you’re using the same account you enrolled with, since the FAQ traces this to people holding more than one DIKSHA account.
Roles, content creation and documents
There are no documents to upload to register as a learner. What matters is your role, shown on your Profile page. Roles such as Content Creator or reviewer are assigned by the state’s Organisation Administrator, not chosen by the user, and creation works only on the website: the app is for viewing content.
Content uploaded to DIKSHA must carry one of the permitted Creative Commons licences or a YouTube licence, with authors credited in the metadata. Of everything on the platform, only PDF content can be downloaded and printed: click the Download icon, save the file and print it.
Common problems and their fixes
- Profile settings or the QR scan button missing in the app. The FAQ traces both to an outdated Android System Webview; update it from the Google Play Store.
- Can’t change your role or school. Ask your state’s Organisation Administrator, since users can’t edit their own roles.
- No Set Password message for a state account. Check that the mobile or email your state registered is the one you’re checking; the link goes only there.
- Course progress missing. You’ve probably logged in with a different account; sign in with the one used to enroll.
- App unavailable in your country. The app is released in India only; use the website instead.
- Can’t download a video. Only PDF content is downloadable for printing; other content can be saved for offline use inside the app.
Where to get help
The help pages publish one contact, support[at]teamdiksha[dot]org, and the website’s Raise a Query option. There’s no national helpline number on the portal. For state accounts, roles and state training courses, your state’s DIKSHA team is the faster route, because the state controls those settings. The DIKSHA Help Center also carries user guides for creators, reviewers and administrators.
DIKSHA in 2026
The PIB factsheet of 28 June 2026 described DIKSHA as “One Nation, One Digital Platform” for school education and set out its reach: 18.77 crore course enrolments, 14.82 crore completions and 575.25 crore learning sessions as on 27 June 2026. It also counted more than 614 virtual labs and features such as sign-language videos and the DAISY accessible format. For context, see how student records move through UDISE Plus and the APAAR ID, which together with DIKSHA form the school side of digital education in India.
Those numbers say more about reach than about learning. A certificate shows a module was completed, not that classroom practice changed, so the courses are worth most to a teacher who picks two or three and applies them, not one who clears twenty for the count.
