Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana Bihar: ₹10,000 Grant Guide

Updates · General Studies

Bihar's Mahila Rojgar Yojana: ₹10,000 first instalment paid to 1.8 crore+ women, ₹20,000 second instalment rolling out, eligibility, mmry.brlps.in status.

Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana (MMRY) is Bihar’s women-employment scheme: one woman per family receives an initial grant of ₹10,000 to start or grow a livelihood activity, with further assistance of up to ₹2 lakh linked to how the enterprise progresses. Launched in September 2025, the scheme has already paid the first instalment to more than 1.8 crore women through the Jeevika network, and the second instalment of ₹20,000 began rolling out in July 2026. Payment status can be checked on the official portal, mmry.brlps.in. Here is what is confirmed, what is still being notified, and how to apply and track your payment.

What the scheme is — and its current status

MMRY is run by the Bihar Rural Livelihoods Promotion Society (BRLPS), better known as Jeevika, the state’s self-help-group network. The state government launched the scheme in early September 2025, and on 26 September 2025 the first ₹10,000 instalments were transferred to 75 lakh women in a single tranche (NewsOnAir, the official broadcaster). Subsequent tranches followed through late 2025 and early 2026 — including ₹10,000 each to a further 25 lakh women in February 2026 — taking the first-instalment total past 1.8 crore beneficiaries.

As of July 2026, the second instalment of ₹20,000 is being released to women whose first-grant utilisation has been verified, with around 20 lakh women covered in the July tranche per news reports (Prabhat Khabar). Later instalments — reported in the press as steps of ₹40,000, ₹60,000, and ₹80,000 toward the “up to ₹2 lakh” total — have been described by ministers but not all stages are formally notified yet; treat the ₹10,000 and ₹20,000 instalments as confirmed and the later structure as indicative until official notification.

Benefit structure

StageAmountStatus (July 2026)
First instalment — startup grant₹10,000Paid to 1.8 crore+ women since September 2025
Second instalment₹20,000Rolling out from July 2026 after utilisation verification
Further enterprise assistanceUp to ₹2 lakh total, progress-linkedAnnounced; stage-wise amounts reported (₹40,000/₹60,000/₹80,000) but await formal notification

All payments are DBT transfers into the woman’s own bank account. The grant is not a loan — there is no interest or repayment on the ₹10,000 — but continued instalments depend on the money being used for the declared livelihood activity, which Jeevika field staff verify.

Who is eligible

There is no education requirement and no upfront contribution. The design follows Bihar’s earlier experience with enterprise schemes — the state’s Udyami Yojana applies a similar staged, progress-linked funding logic at a larger ticket size.

How to apply

The scheme did not open with a general public application portal; enrolment runs through the Jeevika structure:

  1. If you are already a Jeevika SHG member: confirm with your SHG bookkeeper or Community Mobiliser that your name, Aadhaar, and bank details are in the beneficiary list forwarded by your Gram Sangathan. Most existing members were enrolled in bulk during the 2025 tranches.
  2. If you are not yet a member: join the SHG operating in your ward or village — the Jeevika Community Coordinator or the Gram Sangathan office is the entry point. After membership, your enrolment for MMRY is routed through the same channel.
  3. Declare the livelihood activity the grant will fund; this goes into the scheme record and is what later verification checks against.
  4. Keep your bank account active and Aadhaar-seeded. Failed DBT credits due to dormant or mismatched accounts are the most common payment problem.

Documents that matter: Aadhaar, bank passbook in the woman’s name, and residence details as held in Jeevika records. There is no application fee at any stage — the scheme is free to join, and anyone demanding money for “form filling” or “list entry” should be reported to the Gram Sangathan.

How to check payment status

  1. Open mmry.brlps.in, the scheme’s official portal.
  2. Choose the भुगतान स्थिति (payment status) option.
  3. Enter your registered details (Aadhaar-linked identifiers as prompted) and submit.
  4. The screen shows whether your instalment has been credited, is in process, or has failed.

Offline, the Gram Sangathan office or your Jeevika Community Coordinator can look up your record — for many rural beneficiaries this is the faster route. If a payment shows as failed, the fix is almost always at the bank end: reactivate a dormant account, correct a name mismatch with Aadhaar, or complete Aadhaar seeding, then ask for the payment to be reprocessed through the SHG channel.

What to watch for next

Two things remain moving targets, and it is honest to say so plainly:

Bihar runs several parallel supports for women at different life stages — the Kanya Utthan Yojana covers girls from birth through graduation, and the broader catalogue of central and state programmes is in our sarkari yojana list.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much money does Mahila Rojgar Yojana give?

A first instalment of ₹10,000 as a startup grant, a second instalment of ₹20,000 after utilisation verification, and further progress-linked assistance announced as going up to ₹2 lakh in total. The first two instalments are confirmed and being paid; later stages await formal notification.

Is the ₹10,000 a loan that must be repaid?

No. It is a grant, with no interest and no repayment. But receiving further instalments depends on using the money for the declared livelihood activity, which Jeevika verifies.

Who can apply for Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana?

Women of Bihar, one per family, enrolled through the Jeevika self-help-group network, with an Aadhaar-seeded bank account in their own name and a declared livelihood activity. Women not in an SHG can join one to become eligible.

How do I check my Mahila Rojgar Yojana payment status?

On the official portal mmry.brlps.in, use the payment-status option with your registered details — or ask your Gram Sangathan office or Jeevika Community Coordinator to check your record.

When will the second instalment of ₹20,000 come?

Releases began in July 2026 in batches, covering beneficiaries whose first-instalment utilisation has been verified. Batches continue, so a missing credit in one round usually means a later batch, not rejection.

Is there an online application form for new beneficiaries?

Enrolment runs through the Jeevika SHG structure rather than an open public form. Join or contact the SHG in your village or ward; the portal serves mainly for payment-status checking.

My payment failed. What should I do?

Check the failure reason with your Jeevika coordinator. Reactivate a dormant account, fix any name mismatch between Aadhaar and the bank record, complete Aadhaar seeding, and ask for reprocessing through the SHG channel.
