UP Scholarship: Registration, Status Check and Correction
UP Scholarship on scholarship.up.gov.in: pre-matric and post-matric registration steps, renewal, status check, correction window, documents and dates.
The UP Scholarship is Uttar Pradesh’s own scholarship programme for students from Class 9 up to postgraduate and diploma courses, run through the official portal scholarship.up.gov.in. It covers pre-matric (Class 9–10) and post-matric (Class 11–12, UG, PG, diploma, and other courses) awards for SC, ST, OBC, minority, and general category students whose family income falls under the prescribed limits. Registration, form submission, status check, and corrections all happen on the same portal, and the money is credited directly to the student’s Aadhaar-seeded bank account.
Types of UP Scholarship
| Scheme | Who it covers | Managed by |
|---|---|---|
| Pre-Matric | Students of Class 9 and 10 | Social Welfare / Backward Class Welfare / Minority Welfare departments (by category) |
| Post-Matric (Intermediate) | Students of Class 11 and 12 | Same departments, by category |
| Post-Matric (Other than Intermediate) / Dashmottar | UG, PG, diploma, certificate, and professional course students | Same departments, by category |
The scholarship has two components in most schemes: a maintenance allowance and reimbursement of non-refundable fees, which is why the course and institution you enter must exactly match your enrolment records.
Note that this state scholarship is separate from the central schemes on the National Scholarship Portal. A student can be eligible on both portals but cannot draw two scholarships for the same purpose in the same year — you must pick one.
Eligibility at a glance
- Domicile of Uttar Pradesh, enrolled in a recognised institution (in UP, and for some post-matric schemes, outside UP too).
- Income limits (annual family income, all sources, per the 2025–26 cycle guidelines): up to ₹2,00,000 for General, OBC, and minority category students; up to ₹2,50,000 for SC/ST students. Check the current year’s notification on the portal before applying, as limits are revised occasionally.
- The student’s bank account must be in their own name and seeded with Aadhaar (NPCI-mapped), since payment flows through Aadhaar-based DBT.
How to register (fresh application)
- Open scholarship.up.gov.in and click Student → Registration (नवीन पंजीकरण).
- Pick the correct scheme: Pre-Matric, Post-Matric Intermediate, or Post-Matric Other than Intermediate — and within it your category (SC/ST/General, OBC, or Minority). Choosing the wrong scheme is the single most common reason forms get stuck, so read the options slowly.
- Fill the registration form: district, institution, course, caste/category, name as per high school records, father’s and mother’s names, date of birth, Aadhaar number, and mobile number.
- Submit and note the registration number. You will need it for every later step, including status checks and next year’s renewal.
- Log in with the registration number, set a password, and complete the detailed application: bank details, income certificate number, caste certificate number, previous exam details, and fee details.
- Upload the required documents, print the final form, and submit the hard copy to your school or college within the stipulated days. Institute-level forwarding is mandatory — an application your institution never verifies is treated as incomplete.
Your caste and income certificates must be the electronic ones issued through the UP e-district system, since the portal verifies their certificate numbers digitally. If you do not have one yet, see our guide on getting a caste certificate made online.
Renewal
Students who received the scholarship last year do not register afresh. Use Student → Renewal Login with the old registration number, update the course year, marks, and fee details, and resubmit. Renewal windows generally open alongside fresh registration and close on the same dates. A gap year or course change usually means you apply as fresh, not renewal.
Key dates pattern
Exact dates change every year, but the cycle on scholarship.up.gov.in has followed a stable pattern (2025–26 cycle shown as reference; verify the current notification on the portal):
| Stage | Typical window |
|---|---|
| Registration + online form (Pre-Matric and Class 11–12) | Early July to late October |
| Registration + online form (UG/PG/diploma — Dashmottar) | Mid July to mid/late December |
| Hard copy submission to institution | Within about a week of final submission |
| Institution verification and forwarding | Rolling, after form submission |
| Correction window | Short window (about a week) after verification round, typically November for pre-matric/inter and late December for other post-matric |
| Disbursement | January to March, via DBT |
How to check UP scholarship status
- Go to scholarship.up.gov.in and click Status → Application Status.
- Select the academic year, enter your registration number and date of birth, and submit.
- The portal shows the stage your form is at: submitted, verified by institution, forwarded to district committee, accepted, or rejected with a reason.
Two more places to track the money itself:
- PFMS: on pfms.nic.in, use “Know Your Payments” with your bank name and account number to see whether the DBT credit has been pushed.
- Bank account: the credit appears with a state DBT narration; portals and apps that promise “instant scholarship status” outside these official channels are best avoided.
Correction window: fixing a rejected or flagged form
If your application is rejected or held for errors — name mismatch with high school records, wrong bank details, certificate number mismatch — the portal opens a short correction window after the verification round. During it:
- Log in with your registration number and password.
- Open the flagged application; the fields with objections are editable.
- Correct the entries (or re-upload documents), resubmit, and hand the fresh printout to your institution again for forwarding.
The correction window is brief — usually around a week — and missing it means waiting for the next cycle. Watch the portal’s news ticker and your registered mobile for the announcement rather than relying on hearsay dates.
Documents needed
- Aadhaar card (student’s own)
- Caste certificate (e-district issued, except for general category)
- Income certificate (e-district issued, current)
- Domicile certificate
- Previous year / qualifying exam marksheet
- Fee receipt of the current course
- Bank passbook (student’s own account, Aadhaar-seeded)
- Passport-size photo; institution enrolment number
Keep digital copies of all of these organised — a DigiLocker account is a convenient place since marksheets and Aadhaar pull into it directly. If you are also exploring central schemes, our NSP scholarship guide explains that parallel process.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the income limit for UP Scholarship?
Per the 2025–26 cycle: ₹2 lakh a year for General, OBC, and minority students, and ₹2.5 lakh for SC/ST students, counting family income from all sources. The figure comes from your e-district income certificate, so that certificate must be current.
When does UP Scholarship money come?
Disbursement typically happens between January and March for forms verified in the same academic year, credited via Aadhaar-based DBT to the student’s own bank account. Delays usually trace back to Aadhaar seeding or verification objections, not the portal itself.
How do I check UP scholarship status by registration number?
On scholarship.up.gov.in, open Status → Application Status, choose the year, and enter your registration number and date of birth. The result shows exactly which desk your form is sitting at.
Can I correct my UP scholarship form after final submission?
Only during the official correction window that opens after institutional verification, usually for about a week. Fields with objections become editable when you log in; fix them, resubmit, and give the new printout to your institution.
My name is different on Aadhaar and high school marksheet. Will my form be rejected?
Mismatches between the portal entry, high school records, and Aadhaar are the most common rejection reason. Enter your name exactly as in high school records, and get Aadhaar corrected if the spelling differs materially — DBT fails when the bank’s Aadhaar-seeded name cannot match.
Is the UP Scholarship different from the NSP scholarship?
Yes. UP Scholarship is a state programme on scholarship.up.gov.in; NSP hosts central schemes on scholarships.gov.in. Eligibility can overlap, but you cannot draw both for the same course year — choose the one that pays better for your category and course.
Do general category students get UP Scholarship?
Yes. General category students within the income limit are covered under the Social Welfare Department’s schemes on the same portal, for both pre-matric and post-matric levels.
