Kanya Sumangala Yojana: ₹25,000 in 6 Stages, How to Apply
UP's Mukhyamantri Kanya Sumangala Yojana now pays ₹25,000 per girl child across six stages from birth to graduation. Eligibility, amounts, how to apply.
Mukhyamantri Kanya Sumangala Yojana is the Uttar Pradesh government’s conditional cash transfer scheme for girl children. It pays a total of ₹25,000 per girl in six stages — from ₹5,000 at birth to ₹7,000 on admission to graduation or a diploma — to families with an annual income of up to ₹3 lakh. Applications are made online at mksy.up.gov.in, and the money goes straight to the bank account through direct benefit transfer.
What is Kanya Sumangala Yojana?
The Women and Child Development Department of Uttar Pradesh launched the scheme in 2019 to push back against female foeticide, child marriage and school dropout among girls. The design is deliberately staged: instead of one lump sum, the family receives money at six milestones of the girl’s life, each payment conditional on the milestone actually happening — birth registration, full immunisation, school admissions and finally higher education.
The per-girl benefit was raised from ₹15,000 to ₹25,000 with effect from financial year 2024-25, and the stage-wise amounts on the official portal now reflect the higher figures.
Six Stages and Amounts
| Stage | Milestone | One-time amount |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Girl child born on or after 01/04/2019 | ₹5,000 |
| 2 | Full immunisation within one year (girl not born before 01/04/2018) | ₹2,000 |
| 3 | Admission to Class 1 in the current academic year | ₹3,000 |
| 4 | Admission to Class 6 in the current academic year | ₹3,000 |
| 5 | Admission to Class 9 in the current academic year | ₹5,000 |
| 6 | After passing Class 10/12, admission to a bachelor’s degree or a diploma course of at least 2 years | ₹7,000 |
| Total | ₹25,000 |
You do not have to enter at Stage 1. A girl currently in Class 6, for example, can be enrolled at Stage 4 and receive the remaining stage benefits as she reaches each milestone.
Who is Eligible?
Straight from the scheme’s eligibility rules on the official portal:
- The family must be resident in Uttar Pradesh, with valid proof — ration card, Aadhaar, voter ID, or an electricity/telephone bill.
- Family annual income of up to ₹3 lakh.
- Benefits are limited to a maximum of two girls per family, and the family should have a maximum of two children.
- Twins exception: if a second delivery produces twin girls, the third girl also gets the benefit. If the first delivery was a girl and the second delivery produces twin girls, all three girls are covered.
- Adopted daughters count: a family that adopts an orphaned girl can cover up to two girls in total, including biological and adopted children.
Aadhaar of the applicant, father, mother and the beneficiary girl is mandatory for applications (a requirement in force since 10 October 2022).
How to Apply Online
- Go to mksy.up.gov.in and click Citizen Services Portal (Apply Here).
- Register as a new user: enter the parent/guardian’s details and mobile number, verify the OTP, and set a password. Note the login ID.
- Log in and fill the application for the relevant stage — personal details, the girl’s details, bank account (in the mother’s/guardian’s name, Aadhaar-seeded), and address.
- Upload the documents for that stage (see below) and submit. The portal generates an application number for tracking.
- For later stages, log in with the same account and apply again as the girl reaches each milestone — the earlier record stays linked.
Families without internet access can submit the filled form through the block development office, SDM office, or the district probation/women welfare office, from where staff upload it to the same portal.
Typical documents: Aadhaar of parents and girl, income certificate or self-declaration as prescribed, birth certificate (Stage 1), immunisation card (Stage 2), school admission proof (Stages 3–5), admission receipt of degree/diploma (Stage 6), bank passbook, and the family photograph as required by the form.

Checking Application Status
Log in to the Citizen Services Portal with your registered mobile/login ID and open the application dashboard — it shows each stage application as pending, verified or approved. Applications are verified at the block/district level by the probation and women welfare machinery, after which the amount is released via PFMS to the registered bank account. If an application shows objections, the portal lists the reason; fix the document and resubmit rather than filing fresh.
Common rejection reasons worth avoiding at the application stage: income certificate older than the validity period or above ₹3 lakh, a bank account that is not Aadhaar-seeded (payment fails at PFMS even if the application is approved), mismatch between the girl’s name in the birth certificate and school records, and applying for a stage the girl has already crossed (each stage must be claimed in its own academic year — apply in the year the milestone happens).
Kanya Sumangala works alongside other transfer schemes for women and children — mothers of newborns should also check the PM Matru Vandana Yojana maternity benefit, and the wider sarkari yojana list covers what else the family may qualify for. Young women finishing their studies can look at the berojgari bhatta yojana while job-hunting.
Frequently Asked Questions

The family’s annual income must be ₹3 lakh or less. Income beyond this makes the family ineligible regardless of other conditions.

Yes, up to two girls per family are covered. With twins, the rules extend cover to a third girl in the specific situations described in the scheme (twin girls in the second delivery).
Can I apply if my daughter is already in school?

Is Aadhaar compulsory for Kanya Sumangala Yojana?
Yes. Since 10 October 2022, Aadhaar of the applicant, both parents and the beneficiary girl is mandatory, and the bank account must be Aadhaar-seeded for the DBT payment.
How do I check my Kanya Sumangala application status?
Log in at mksy.up.gov.in through the Citizen Services Portal with your registered credentials; the dashboard shows stage-wise status. District-wise application and PFMS payment reports are also published on the portal.
Do girls born before April 2019 get the birth-stage benefit?
No. Stage 1 applies only to girls born on or after 1 April 2019, and Stage 2 to girls not born before 1 April 2018. Older girls simply enter the scheme at the school stages.
