Family ID Haryana: How to Apply, Update and Find Your Parivar Pehchan Patra
How Haryana's Parivar Pehchan Patra works: who needs it, how to create one, correct income or caste, change the mobile number and find a lost family ID.
When a Haryana office asks for your family ID, it means one number: the Parivar Pehchan Patra, or PPP. Family ID Haryana is the state’s single record of every household, and it now sits behind pensions, scholarships, subsidies, ration and crop registration. So if you need to create one, correct a wrong income figure or find a number nobody in the house wrote down, this page walks you through each of those jobs.
The record lives on the Mera Parivar portal, run by the Haryana Parivar Pehchan Authority (HPPA), at meraparivar.haryana.gov.in. Creating or updating it is a free service, and the thing that decides how smoothly any of it goes is whether the mobile number on your family record still works.
I want to settle what the number is before the steps, because most mistakes on the portal start with confusing it with Aadhaar.
What Family ID Haryana Is
The Haryana family ID is a unique number given to a household, not to a person, under the Haryana Parivar Pehchan Act, 2021. Think of it as the family’s master file: Aadhaar proves who one person is, while the family ID tells the state who lives together, what the household earns and which schemes it qualifies for.
The key facts:
- Permanent family ID: 8 digits, issued to families living in Haryana.
- Temporary family ID: 9 digits beginning with the letter ‘T’, for families living outside Haryana who apply for a Haryana service or scheme.
- Legal basis: Haryana Act No. 20 of 2021, which received the Governor’s assent on 4 September 2021. It set up the Haryana Parivar Pehchan Authority, chaired by the Chief Minister.
- Life events: the Act makes the Authority link the record to birth, death and marriage registrations, so these update the family data automatically.
- Proof value: once a data field is verified, it can be accepted as conclusive proof of eligibility without further documents.
- Scale: the Authority’s own counter showed 69,19,287+ families, 2,78,90,269+ people and 500+ integrated services in late 2023.
Every field you submit is tagged either verified or not verified after checks against other government databases or in the field. A not-verified field is sent back to the head of the family for correction or a supporting document. That tag matters later, because verified fields are locked.
Madhya Pradesh runs a similar household database, explained in this guide to the Samagra portal. The logic is the same: register the family once, and let every department read the same record.
Rajasthan runs a comparable family database of its own; our Jan Aadhaar guide covers how that one works.
Who Needs a Family ID in Haryana
Every resident family that wants a state benefit needs one. The Act defines a resident broadly: a family living in Haryana, plus state government, government agency or local authority employees who live outside the state or are deputed outside it.
In practice, the PPP is asked for when you:
- claim Old Age Samman Allowance, where names are added automatically from PPP data when a person turns 60
- register crops on the Meri Fasal Mera Byora portal, where the PPP has been mandatory since Rabi registration in January 2021
- apply for caste or income certificates, public distribution and marriage registration, all listed among PPP-linked services
- apply for scholarships, subsidies and pensions, which the state links to the family ID for automatic beneficiary selection
That last point is the real design goal. Once a family’s data is verified, the state picks eligible families from the database instead of waiting for each one to apply, which is the same idea behind Direct Benefit Transfer at the national level.
Any adult member of the family can provide or update the information. You don’t need the head of the family to be physically present, but OTPs for self-updates go to the head’s registered mobile.
Documents You Need
The PPP asks for very few documents up front because it cross-checks data electronically. What you need depends on the task.
| Task | What you need |
|---|---|
| Find your family ID | Family ID or the Aadhaar number of any member, plus OTP on the registered mobile |
| Create a new family ID | Details of every member, a mobile number for OTP, and the signed PPP document for upload |
| Update details yourself | Family ID and OTP on the head of family’s mobile |
| Change the registered mobile | Aadhaar number and the new mobile number for OTP |
| Correct caste | Caste certificate, uploaded with the caste grievance |
| Correct income | Income details as per the portal’s guidelines, with supporting documents if you have them |
If you’re missing a birth or death entry, fix the civil registration first. The family record reads from those registers, which is why delayed birth and death registration causes knock-on problems in databases like this one.
How to Apply for a New Family ID
There are two ways to create a family ID, and neither costs anything. You can do it yourself through the portal’s Citizen Login, or get it done at a Common Service Centre (CSC), an Antyodaya SARAL Kendra or a registered PPP operator.
Online Through Citizen Login
A Haryana family that isn’t registered yet can create its own Parivar Pehchan Number through Citizen Login, without visiting a CSC.
- Open meraparivar.haryana.gov.in and select Citizen Login.
- Choose the option to create a new family ID if your family isn’t registered.
- Verify yourself with the OTP sent to your mobile number.
- Enter the details of every family member carefully. These are the data fields departments will use to judge eligibility.
- Sign and upload the PPP document on the portal.
- Note the family ID that’s generated, then watch for messages about fields marked not verified.
Step 5 deserves care. After the signed PPP document is uploaded, only a one-time change is allowed, so check spellings, dates of birth and income before you sign.
Assisted at a CSC, SARAL Kendra or PPP Operator
The assisted route suits families without a smartphone or a working mobile number on record.
- Find a nearby operator. The portal’s “Active Operator” page lists registered operators, and the SARAL portal at https://saralharyana.gov.in/ lists SARAL Kendras.
- Carry the details of every member and the mobile number you want registered.
- The operator keys in the details on your behalf and completes the PPP entry.
- Collect the family ID and keep a printout.
The portal states plainly that creating and updating a PPP is a free service, and operators must not take any fee from citizens.
How to Update Family Details
Updates work the same two ways: self-update with an OTP to the head of family’s mobile, or assisted mode at a CSC, SARAL Kendra or operator. Citizens can also apply for corrections themselves through the correction module under the “Family Details” tab.
- Log in with your family ID and the OTP sent to the head of family’s registered mobile.
- Open the family details and choose the member or field to change.
- Enter the correct details and upload a supporting document where asked.
- Submit and keep the request reference.
Two rules decide what you can change:
- Verified fields can’t be edited from your side. Once the Authority has verified a field, a correction needs a grievance.
- One change after signing. Only a one-time change is allowed after the signed PPP document is uploaded.
The three corrections people ask about most each have their own route.
Correcting Income
Wrong income is the error that costs families benefits, because eligibility for many schemes runs on the income in the PPP. The state opened income correction through the portal’s Report Grievance option: enter your income details following the guidelines, attach documents that support your claim, and the department verifies them before changing the record.
Upload only information you can prove. An income correction that fails verification leaves you where you started, and a false entry is a legal problem, as the limits section explains.
Correcting Caste
Use Report Caste Grievance on the portal. Search your family by family ID or Aadhaar, verify the OTP, choose the member, select caste and sub-caste, and upload the caste certificate. The family details screen shows whether caste was verified by the Patwari, which tells you who will check your claim. For how caste certificates themselves are issued, see this explainer on the caste certificate.
Changing the Registered Mobile Number
Use Update Mobile No. on the portal. Enter the Aadhaar number, enter the new mobile number and verify with the OTP. Do this first if OTPs aren’t reaching you, because every other self-service step depends on that number.
How to Find or Download Your Family ID
You can look up a family ID with either the family ID itself or the Aadhaar number of a member. The portal then sends an OTP to the registered mobile and shows the family’s details, including each member’s ID.
- Open meraparivar.haryana.gov.in and use the family search in Citizen Login.
- Enter the Aadhaar number of any member, or the family ID.
- If the portal says there’s no record for that Aadhaar number, try another member’s Aadhaar. The portal itself suggests this.
- Verify the OTP and view the family details.
- Print or save the record for your files.
Keep a saved copy with your other identity papers. A folder in DigiLocker works well for scans you’ll need again, and it helps to check your Aadhaar details are current through the Aadhaar update process so the two records don’t drift apart.
Fees and Timelines
The fee side of family ID Haryana services is simple, because every PPP service to citizens is free.
| Item | What the official sources say |
|---|---|
| Creating a family ID | Free; no application fee on any channel |
| Updating or correcting details | Free; operators may not charge citizens |
| Temporary family ID | 9 digits, starts with ‘T’ |
| Permanent family ID | 8 digits |
| Changes after signed upload | One-time change only |
| Helpline hours | 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, Monday to Saturday |
The Authority doesn’t publish a fixed turnaround for verification or grievances. Corrections go to the department or official responsible for that field, so a caste claim waits on field verification while a mobile change can finish in minutes.
Common Errors and Fixes
Most family ID Haryana problems fall into a handful of patterns:
- OTP not arriving. The registered mobile is outdated. Use Update Mobile No. with an Aadhaar number, or visit an operator.
- “No record for this Aadhaar number.” That member’s Aadhaar isn’t linked to the family record. Search with another member’s Aadhaar or the family ID.
- A field won’t change. It’s already verified. Raise a grievance with proof instead of trying to edit it.
- Scheme rejected because of income. File an income correction through Report Grievance with supporting documents.
- Wrong caste in the record. Use Report Caste Grievance and upload the caste certificate.
- Left out of a scheme you qualify for. Use Report Exclusion Grievance on the portal.
- An operator asks for money. Refuse. The portal says creating and updating a PPP is free of charge.
Helpline and Grievance Contacts
For PPP problems, contact the Authority directly. The portal lists these:
- Helpline: 0172-4880500, 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, Monday to Saturday
- Second number listed on the portal: 9888633322
- Email: [email protected]
- Online grievances: https://grievance.edisha.gov.in, as listed by the Authority
- Scheme and service queries: the SARAL helpline, 0172-3968400
When you write in, include the family ID, the member’s name and a one-line description of what’s wrong. A grievance that names the exact field is far easier to act on than one that says “PPP not working.”
What the Portal Can’t Do
Family ID Haryana is a household record for one state, and it has clear edges:
- It isn’t personal identity. It identifies a household. For one person’s identity, Aadhaar remains the document.
- It won’t let you overwrite verified data. That protects the record, but it also means a wrong verified field needs a grievance and proof.
- It doesn’t decide scheme rules. Eligibility comes from each scheme. The PPP only supplies the data those rules check.
- It doesn’t reach outside Haryana. Central schemes and other states run their own checks. For the main central schemes, see this sarkari yojana list.
- It can’t fix a false entry quietly. Under Section 32 of the Act, knowingly giving false information to impersonate someone is punishable with up to 3 years in prison, a fine of up to ₹50,000, or both.
The offline fallback is always the same: a SARAL Kendra, a CSC or a registered PPP operator. Ration and PDS questions still go to the food department, and this guide to ration card download covers the state-wise portals.
The habit worth building is small. Every time the family has a birth, a death, a marriage or a change in income, open the PPP record and check that it caught up. It is wise to spend five minutes there before the next scheme deadline, not after a rejection.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is family ID in Haryana?
It is the Parivar Pehchan Patra, a unique number given to a household under the Haryana Parivar Pehchan Act, 2021. Families living in Haryana get an 8-digit permanent ID, and families living outside the state who apply for a Haryana service get a 9-digit temporary ID starting with T.
Is there a fee to make or update a Haryana family ID?
No. Creating and updating the Parivar Pehchan Patra is a free service on every channel, including CSCs, SARAL Kendras and PPP operators. The portal says operators must not take any fee from citizens.
How can I find my family ID using Aadhaar?
Use the family search on meraparivar.haryana.gov.in and enter the Aadhaar number of any member. After OTP verification on the registered mobile, the family details and member IDs appear. If one member’s Aadhaar shows no record, try another member’s Aadhaar.
Can I correct the income shown in my PPP?
Yes. Use the Report Grievance option on the Mera Parivar portal, enter your income details as per the guidelines and attach supporting documents. The department verifies the claim before the record changes.
Why can’t I edit some fields in my family ID?
Fields that the Authority has already verified are locked and cannot be edited through self-update. Also, only a one-time change is allowed after the signed PPP document is uploaded. A locked field needs a grievance with proof.
Is the Haryana family ID the same as Aadhaar?
No. Aadhaar identifies one person across India. The family ID identifies a Haryana household and holds the data, such as members and income, that state schemes use to decide eligibility.
