Technology under the Delhi Sultanate
The Delhi Sultanate (1206–1526) acted as a bridge for technologies from West and Central Asia, several of which reshaped production, administration and everyday life in India.
Major technological changes
- Water-lifting and agriculture: the Persian wheel (saqiya/rahat), fitted with a pin-drum gearing mechanism, greatly improved irrigation from wells and raised farm output.
