Key Features and Objectives
PM SHRI schools are designed to be modern, exemplar institutions focusing on:
- NEP 2020 Implementation: Showcasing all components of NEP 2020, including a focus on competency-based learning and a 360-degree Holistic Progress Card for assessment.
- Modern Infrastructure: Providing modern and safe infrastructure like Smart Classrooms, well-equipped Science/ICT Labs, and libraries.
- Holistic & Experiential Learning: Adopting a pedagogy that is experiential, inquiry-driven, discovery-oriented, learner-centred, and joyful.
- Green Schools: Incorporating environment-friendly features such as solar panels, LED lights, waste management, water conservation, and a nutrition garden.
- Future-Ready Citizens: Encouraging vocational intervention, digital learning, and enhancing internship/entrepreneurship opportunities, linking students to the local entrepreneurial ecosystem.
- Mentorship: These schools are expected to offer leadership and mentorship to other schools in their vicinity.
Note: All the States and UT’s have signed MoU under PM SHRI except West Bengal and Tamil Nadu. However the KV’s and NV’s in these states are part of PM SHRI.
How is the scheme implemented?
- Financial Linkage: The Centre has linked the release of funds under the Samagra Shiksha scheme (which is funded in a 60:40 ratio by the Centre and States) to the implementation of the PM-SHRI scheme.
- Support for the Right to Education (RTE) Act: The scheme actively supports the implementation of the Right to Education Act.
- Provision of Essentials: It provides uniforms and textbooks to students attending government schools.
- Inclusion Support: It offers support for differently-abled children.
- Economically Weaker Section (EWS) Reimbursement: The scheme covers the reimbursement provided to private schools for student admissions under the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) category.
