Why Northern India Suffers More Pollution than Southern & Western India

Context:

Key Findings of the Study (2015–2025):

  • Southern & western cities (Chennai, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Visakhapatnam) showed comparatively better AQI but still not safe.
  • No Indian city recorded “safe” air quality in the last decade.
  • Delhi remained the most polluted city throughout the period.
  • Northern Indian cities (Delhi, Lucknow, Varanasi) show the worst and most persistent pollution.
