MahaDBT is the Maharashtra government’s direct benefit transfer portal, the place where students apply for state scholarships and fee reimbursements and farmers apply for subsidies on equipment, irrigation and horticulture. The money goes straight to the beneficiary’s Aadhaar-linked bank account. The main address is mahadbt.maharashtra.gov.in, and for scholarships from the 2026-27 academic year the work has moved to the new MahaDBT 2.0 portal at mahadbt2.maharashtra.gov.in.
The confusion most people carry is that MahaDBT is one login. It isn’t. Students and farmers use separate portals with separate logins: students sign in with a Maha ID or Aadhaar OTP, while farmers sign in with their AgriStack Farmer ID. A student’s password won’t open the farmer portal, and a farmer without a Farmer ID can’t apply for most farm schemes at all. Sort out which side you’re on and the rest of MahaDBT falls into place.
MahaDBT at a Glance
MahaDBT is maintained by MahaIT, the state’s IT corporation, for the departments that run the schemes. These are the basics from the official pages.

The idea behind it is the national DBT model, explained in our note on the importance of direct benefit transfers: pay the beneficiary directly and cut out the layers where money used to leak.
MahaDBT 1.0 and 2.0: Which Portal to Use
The portal is in the middle of a switch, and the old site says so in a notice on its home page. Fresh and renewal applications for the 2026-27 academic year are accepted only on MahaDBT 2.0. The old portal stayed open for 2025-26 fresh applications and for students whose earlier applications were marked “Sent Back” for 2023-24, 2024-25 or 2025-26.
The 2.0 home page sets the dates: fresh applications for 2026-27 opened on 1 June 2026, and applications for 2025-26 continued up to 30 September 2026. If you’re applying now for the current year, use 2.0.
MahaDBT 2.0 sorts its schemes by who you are. The home page counts 105 schemes overall, while its category tiles add up to more because a scheme can appear under more than one tile:
| Category on MahaDBT 2.0 | Schemes |
|---|---|
| College Student | 60 |
| MahaScholarship (School Student) | 14 |
| Farmer | 20 |
| Pensioner/ Special Assistance Schemes | 03 |
| Divyang | 02 |
| Other | 30 |
The college list is where most traffic goes. It includes the Government of India Post-Matric Scholarship, the Rajarshi Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj Shikshan Shulkh Shishyavrutti fee reimbursement, the Dr Panjabrao Deshmukh hostel maintenance allowance, post-matric scholarships for OBC, VJNT and SBC students and minority scholarships run by the higher, technical and medical education directorates. Central schemes such as the NSP scholarships run on a different portal, covered in our guide to the National Scholarship Portal.
The keyword “MahaDBT workflow” points to a third site, dbtworkflow.mahaonline.gov.in. That’s the Institute / Dept / DDO Login where colleges and department officers verify and forward applications. Students don’t log in there.
How to Register and Log In on MahaDBT 2.0
MahaDBT 2.0 uses MahaSarathi, the state’s single sign-on, so you register once and get a Maha ID that works across state services. Keep three things ready: your Aadhaar number, the mobile number linked to that Aadhaar and an email address.
- On the MahaDBT 2.0 home page, click Register. You’ll land on the MahaSarathi site.
- Enter your full name exactly as on Aadhaar, your 12-digit Aadhaar number, the Aadhaar-linked mobile, your date of birth and email.
- Click Register, enter the 6-digit OTP and click Verify.
- Save the Maha ID shown. You’ll return to MahaDBT automatically.
To log in later, choose Login, then Citizen Login, and pick Maha ID or Aadhaar. Either way an OTP goes to your registered mobile, and it expires in 2 minutes. There’s also Login without MahaID, using Aadhaar and OTP, but then nothing is auto-filled and you type every detail yourself.
If your Aadhaar-linked mobile has changed, fix that first at an Aadhaar centre. Our guide to updating Aadhaar online covers what can and can’t be changed without a visit. Every OTP on MahaDBT goes to that number.
How to Apply for a MahaDBT Scholarship
The 2.0 user manual sets out the steps. Have these ready before you open the form:
- Aadhaar card
- Income certificate issued in the current financial year; an older one gets the application rejected
- Caste or category certificate, if you’re applying under SC, ST, OBC or SEBC
- Current admission or fee receipt
- Bank passbook with account number and IFSC
- Photo and signature as JPG or JPEG
Then:
- Log in and open the Apply for Scheme tab.
- Use Find Eligible Schemes / Know Your Benefits to filter by category, caste, income, course and year. Each scheme shows Details, the GR (government resolution) and a Tentative Benefit figure.
- Click Apply on the scheme. The portal checks eligibility and whether you’ve already applied this year.
- Select the Academic Year and click Proceed to Apply.
- Fill each section and check the auto-filled fields. Details come from Aadhaar, DigiLocker and CET or CAP records, and a wrong one causes rejection or a failed payment.
- Upload documents as PDF, JPG or JPEG, up to 5 MB each and not password-protected.
- Use Save as Draft if you need to stop, Preview Application to check, then Submit Application.
- Note the Application Reference Number (ARN). It comes by SMS and email too.
You can apply to several schemes, but only one application per scheme per academic year. If you got a scheme last year and stayed in the same course, use Submit for Renewal; if you changed college or course, file a fresh application. The certificates themselves come from the tehsil, and our guides to the income certificate and the caste certificate explain how to get them in time.
MahaDBT Farmer Login and Schemes
The farmer portal at mahadbt.maharashtra.gov.in/Farmer runs on a different rule: a Farmer ID from AgriStack is mandatory for agriculture scheme benefits. The Farmer ID ties your Aadhaar to the land you hold, and once you log in the portal pulls your profile and land details from AgriStack.
To log in:
- Under Applicant Login Here, choose Individual Farmer or Farmer Group.
- Enter your Farmer ID and click Send OTP. The OTP goes to the mobile registered with your Farmer ID.
- Enter it and click Verify OTP.
Don’t know your Farmer ID? Click Know Your Farmer ID, enter your Aadhaar and verify the OTP, and the portal fills it in. No Farmer ID at all? The portal tells farmers to visit the nearest Common Service Centre with their Aadhaar card and the mobile number linked to it. An Aadhaar Based Login remains only for four groups: solar fencing, sugarcane farm mechanisation, farmers of Jivati taluka in Chandrapur district and Forest Rights Act holders.
Once inside, the June 2025 farmer manual lays out the flow:
- Update your caste category and disability status in the profile; the profile must reach 100% before you can apply.
- Open Apply Component, click Choose Component and add the items you want from each tile.
- Click Submit Application. On a first submission the portal asks you to Pay Application Fees; the amount appears on the payment screen.
- Track it under View Component History, which has tabs for Applied Component, Under Scrutiny Application, Fund Disbursed, Rejected/Cancelled and Payment Pending.
- After the agriculture officer scrutinises your documents, the portal generates a pre-sanction letter. Keep it safe, since it records the department’s approval of your component.
The farmer list includes PMKSY Per Drop More Crop micro-irrigation, the Sub-mission on Farm Mechanization, the Bhausaheb Fundkar Phalbaag Lagvad Yojana, the Birsa Munda Krishi Kranti Yojana, the Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Krushi Swavalamban Yojana and the Chief Minister Sustainable Agriculture Irrigation Scheme. Why the state subsidises machinery at all is covered in our note on the mechanisation of Indian agriculture. Villages covered by the Nanaji Deshmukh Krishi Sanjivani Prakalp 2.0 apply on that project’s own portal, dbt-ndksp.mahapocra.gov.in, and applications from those villages have been moved there.
Farmer groups follow a split rule. Groups registered on MahaDBT before 31 March 2025 choose “Existing Farmer Group” and log in with their user name and password, then verify the authorised member’s Farmer ID. Newer groups choose “New Farmer Group” and log in with a member’s Farmer ID. Registered groups such as farmer producer organisations apply this way for components like crop demonstrations.
Lottery to First Come, First Served
Selection on the farmer portal used to run by lottery. It now runs first come, first served (FCFS), and the portal publishes an Application Timestamp Report along with the MahaDBT FCFS selection list and FCFS Waiting list, so anyone can see where an application stands in the queue.
The practical lesson is timing. Under FCFS, a complete application submitted early beats a better one submitted late, so finish the profile and Farmer ID work before the component window opens.
How to Track a MahaDBT Application
On 2.0, log in and open My Applications; you can also use Track Application on the home page without logging in. The status tells you what to do next:
| Status | What it means |
|---|---|
| Submitted | Waiting for the officer; nothing to do |
| Sent Back | Returned for correction; read the remarks, fix and resubmit |
| Approved | Benefit will follow after allotment |
| Payment Initiated | Payment sent; allow 1 to 3 working days |
| Disbursed | Money credited |
| Undisbursed | Payment failed; usually a bank or Aadhaar-seeding problem |
| Rejected | Read the reason; correctable errors may allow reapplying in the same year |
Sent Back is not rejection. It’s the status students most often ignore, and the application stalls until they resubmit.
Common Errors and Their Fixes
Most MahaDBT failures trace back to a handful of causes:
- OTP not arriving. It goes only to the Aadhaar-linked or Farmer ID-linked mobile. Wait 60 seconds, click Resend OTP and update the number at an Aadhaar centre if it’s changed.
- Undisbursed payment. Usually the bank account isn’t seeded with Aadhaar, or it’s dormant or KYC-pending. Visit the bank, seed the account and check the status on the UIDAI bank-mapper page. The old portal also suggests an India Post Payments Bank account with Aadhaar seeding.
- Rejected for an expired income certificate. Get a fresh one for the current financial year.
- Name mismatch. Your MahaDBT name comes from Aadhaar. Correct Aadhaar, or get the certificate corrected so both match.
- Wrong document after submitting. You can’t edit a submitted application; raise a grievance explaining it.
- Farmer can’t log in. Without a Farmer ID, only the four Aadhaar-login groups can enter. Create the Farmer ID at a CSC first.
Grievances and Helplines
On 2.0, open the Grievance tab, click Raise Grievance next to the scheme, choose the grievance type, describe the problem in up to 2,000 characters and attach a file up to 5 MB. Save the Grievance Reference ID. The manual says most grievances are reviewed within 7 working days, and if your status shows Approved with no money after 15 working days, that’s the moment to raise one.
If a grievance stays pending, the manual’s escalation order is the helpline, then the grievance redressal officer named on your grievance page, then the district collector’s office. The numbers:
- Scholarships: 022-49150800
- Farmer portal: 022-61316429, 9.45 am to 6.15 pm
- Chief Minister helpline: 1800 120 8040, toll free, 24×7
MahaDBT rewards the applicant who prepares before the window opens. A current income certificate, an Aadhaar-seeded bank account and, for farmers, a Farmer ID decide more applications than the form ever does.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is MahaDBT?
MahaDBT is the Government of Maharashtra’s direct benefit transfer portal. It handles applications for state scholarships, fee reimbursements, farm subsidies, pensions and other schemes, and pays the benefit directly into the beneficiary’s Aadhaar-linked bank account.
Is the MahaDBT farmer login different from the scholarship login?
Yes. Farmers log in on the farmer portal with their AgriStack Farmer ID and an OTP. Students log in on MahaDBT 2.0 with a Maha ID or Aadhaar OTP. The two logins don’t work across portals.
Which portal should I use for a 2026-27 scholarship?
Use MahaDBT 2.0 at mahadbt2.maharashtra.gov.in. The old portal’s notice says fresh and renewal applications for 2026-27 are accepted only on 2.0, and fresh applications opened on 1 June 2026.
What is the MahaDBT workflow site?
The workflow site is the Institute, Department and DDO login used by colleges and officers to verify and forward applications. Students and farmers don’t need it; they apply on the citizen portals.
Is a Farmer ID compulsory on MahaDBT?
Yes, for agriculture schemes. The farmer portal states that a Farmer ID registered through AgriStack is mandatory. Aadhaar-based login is allowed only for solar fencing, sugarcane mechanisation, Jivati taluka farmers and Forest Rights Act holders.
Does MahaDBT still use a lottery for farmer schemes?
No. Selection now runs on first come, first served, and the portal publishes an application timestamp report with FCFS selection and waiting lists. Submitting a complete application early is what counts.
Why is my MahaDBT scholarship approved but not paid?
The most common reason is that the bank account isn’t seeded with Aadhaar, or it’s dormant or KYC-pending. Fix the account at the bank. If nothing arrives 15 working days after approval, raise a grievance with your application reference number.
What does Sent Back mean on MahaDBT?
Sent Back means the officer has returned the application for correction. It isn’t a rejection. Log in, read the scrutiny remarks, make the change and resubmit before the scheme window closes.
