Districts in Andhra Pradesh: Current List and Official Links

Districts in Andhra Pradesh: check the current 28-district list, official government links, names often confused, and how to verify changes.

Districts in Andhra Pradesh guide cover with steps to check the current count, official district sites and a map

The list of districts in Andhra Pradesh has 28 entries in the current National Informatics Centre directory. A list that still says 26 misses Markapuram and Polavaram, which also appear in the Andhra Pradesh Directorate of Economics and Statistics’ 2026 districtwise data.

That difference matters for exam notes: an older district map or Census 2011 population table cannot be treated as a current 28-district table. The directory below supplies today’s names and official links where they exist; it does not invent comparable population estimates for the newer districts.

How many districts are in Andhra Pradesh?

Andhra Pradesh has 28 districts in the NIC Integrated Government Online Directory. The directory links district entries to their government portals. Use the state or district government for a later change; a printed list can lag an official notification.

The Andhra Pradesh Directorate of Economics and Statistics districtwise data provides a second government check for the change highlighted below.

The 28 names below follow NIC’s current directory. Links open a district-government portal where it is available. For an unavailable portal, the row links to NIC’s district-specific directory entry instead. This table is alphabetical for quick lookup, not a division-wise or population ranking.

Which Andhra Pradesh district names are easy to confuse?

These distinctions matter when you compare a current district list with older notes or a map:

  • Markapuram and Polavaram are separate entries in the current district directory. NIC leaves their website fields blank, but both districts have official Andhra Pradesh portals linked below.
  • East Godavari and West Godavari remain separate entries, alongside other current district names such as Kakinada and Eluru. Don’t reuse a pre-reorganization list without checking each row.
  • Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema, Alluri Sitharama Raju and Parvathipuram Manyam are full district names; abbreviations in notes can conceal which district is meant.

How should you study Andhra Pradesh’s districts?

For APPSC preparation, use the current district list for names, the state Directorate’s live districtwise data to check recent operational use, and an official notification for a formation date. When a PYQ uses an older boundary, answer it in the context of that exam year rather than silently substituting today’s map.

For the wider exam pattern, use our APPSC exam guide. A district list is most useful when it sits beside an official map and a few relevant geography facts; the names by themselves are only the first layer.

Can you compare today’s districts with Census 2011 population figures?

Only with care. Census India’s population finder reports 2011 population, while this directory describes the current administrative list. When a district was created, renamed or redrawn later, its present row does not automatically have a directly comparable 2011 figure. Quote the source year and boundary basis with any population number.

The same official-source method is used in our districts in Madhya Pradesh and districts in Punjab guides. For Uttar Pradesh, use the existing UP district reference.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many districts are in Andhra Pradesh?

NIC’s current state directory lists 28 districts in Andhra Pradesh. Check the directory again if a later government notification changes the list.

Where can I find the official Andhra Pradesh district list?

Use NIC’s state-wise Integrated Government Online Directory. The table on this page follows its 28 rows and links district-government portals or NIC entries.

Why do some sources say Andhra Pradesh has 26 districts?

They reflect an earlier list. The current NIC directory has 28 entries, including Markapuram and Polavaram; Andhra Pradesh’s 2026 districtwise government data also lists both.

Are district and division the same thing?

No. A district is an administrative unit; a division groups districts where the state uses that layer. A district count cannot be read as a division count.

Do the current districts all have Census 2011 population figures?

Not automatically. Census 2011 used its own district boundaries. A later district may need a separately documented boundary-adjusted figure, so state the year and source with any population number.
