OASIS scholarship is West Bengal’s online scholarship system for Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe and Other Backward Classes students, run at oasis.wb.gov.in by the Backward Classes Welfare Department and the Tribal Development Department. OASIS stands for Online Application for Scholarship in Studies. It covers pre-matric scholarships for Classes IX and X and post-matric scholarships from Class XI onward, and students use the portal to apply, renew, check status and see what they’re owed.
The common mistake is to treat OASIS as a form you fill once and forget. It’s a three-party process. You register online, but your institution has to approve the printed application, and the money reaches only a bank account that’s seeded with Aadhaar on the NPCI mapper. Most “pending” and “payment failed” cases on the OASIS scholarship portal trace back to one of those two hand-offs, not to the online form.

Who Is Eligible for the OASIS Scholarship
Eligibility rests on category, domicile, income and a clean academic record. The department’s student manual sets out these conditions:
- Category: you must belong to SC, ST or OBC.
- Domicile: you must be a permanent resident of West Bengal. The scholarship covers study anywhere in India, but not abroad.
- Income: family income must not exceed Rs 2,50,000 a year for SC, ST and OBC students alike.
- Previous exam: you must have passed the final exam of the previous academic year.
- Bank account: you need an active account in your own name.
- One scholarship only: the rule is one candidate, one application. Applying for another scholarship at the same time disqualifies you from OASIS.
The scheme list for 2026-27 has seven entries: Post-matric for SC, ST and OBC, and Pre-matric for SC, ST, OBC and Pre-matric Component II. Component II is for children of parents in hazardous occupations such as tanning, flaying and sanitation work, and the portal provides a separate format for the parent’s occupation certificate.
Your caste certificate number is the key to registration, so get that sorted first. West Bengal issues it through castcertificatewb.gov.in; our caste certificate and income certificate guides explain what each document proves. OBC students should also note the state’s 2026 reset of its OBC list after the Calcutta High Court’s 2024 ruling, covered in our explainer on West Bengal’s OBC reservation Bills; check with your institution that your certificate is still accepted before you apply.
Step 1: Generate Your NSP OTR
OASIS now asks for a One-Time Registration number from the National Scholarship Portal. The OTR is generated once after Aadhaar e-KYC and stays valid for your whole academic career. Generating it is not an application; you still have to apply on OASIS.
- Go to scholarships.gov.in, click Register / Get your OTR, accept the guidelines and click Submit.
- Enter your mobile number and captcha, click Get OTP, enter the OTP and click Verify.
- Enter your Aadhaar number and the OTP sent to the Aadhaar-linked mobile, then click Verify.
- Read the Aadhaar consent form and click I Agree. Your profile and your bank account’s DBT status from the NPCI mapper appear.
- Click Finish to get your NSP Reference Number.
- On an Android phone, install the NSP OTR app and UIDAI’s Aadhaar Face RD app. In the NSP OTR app choose eKYC by FaceAuth, enter the reference number and OTP, and complete the face scan.
Your OTR number then appears on screen, and a temporary password is sent to your mobile. Only one OTR is allowed per student; the department’s OTR note says a student found with more than one can be debarred.
Step 2: Register on the OASIS Portal
With the OTR in hand, registration on OASIS takes a few screens.
- Open oasis.wb.gov.in and, under Students Corner, click Student’s Registration.
- Choose the district where your institution is located and click Submit. If you study outside West Bengal, choose the district of your permanent address.
- Enter your Caste Certificate Number, its Issuing Date and the captcha, and click Submit.
- Enter your OTR Number, Aadhaar Card Number and captcha. Your name and certificate details fill in automatically. Click Proceed.
- Fill the Primary Details: father’s or guardian’s name, caste or sub-caste, course type, last passed examination, passing year and contact details.
- Create a password, enter the captcha and click Submit.
- Download the Acknowledgement Slip. It carries your Application ID, which starts with WB01.
Step 3: Complete, Lock and Submit the Application
Registration only creates your account. The application itself is finished from your login.
- Click Registered Student’s Log In and sign in with your Application ID, password and district.
- Open Step 1 (Further Details) and fill every field marked with a red asterisk, then click Submit.
- Open Step 2 (Bank Details & Household Income), enter your bank account details and household income sources, and click Save and Proceed.
- Open Step 3 (Preview Application) and check everything carefully.
- Click Verify and Lock Application and confirm with the 4-digit OTP sent to your mobile. Once locked, the form can’t be edited under any circumstances.
- Click Download Application Form and print the three-page form.
- Hand the printed form to your institution with copies of your income certificate, caste certificate and bank passbook for approval.
Upload the income certificate as a JPEG of at most 512 KB, and make sure your name, spelling, birth year and gender match your Aadhaar exactly. A mismatch is the most common reason a locked form gets stuck later.
OASIS Scholarship Amount by Scheme
The amount depends on the scheme, your category, hosteller or day-scholar status and the course group your programme falls in, which your institution can confirm. The department’s rate chart for SC and OBC applies with effect from 1 January 2024, and the ST chart from 1 April 2025.
| Scheme | Rate in the department’s chart |
|---|---|
| Pre-matric SC (IX and X) | Hosteller Rs 10,000 a year (state rate) or Rs 7,000 (GoI rate); day scholar Rs 3,500 a year |
| Pre-matric OBC (IX and X) | Rs 4,000 a year, hosteller or day scholar |
| Pre-matric Component II (Classes I to X) | Hosteller Rs 8,000 a year; day scholar Rs 3,500 a year; no income ceiling |
| Post-matric SC | Group I hosteller Rs 13,500 a year, day scholar Rs 7,000 down to Rs 2,500 for Group IV, plus fees subject to capping |
| Post-matric OBC (XI onward) | Group A Rs 20,000, Group B Rs 13,000, Group C Rs 8,000, Group D Rs 5,000 a year (academic allowance plus tuition fee) |
| Pre-matric ST (IX and X) | Hosteller Rs 525 a month plus a state top-up of Rs 1,275 a month; day scholar Rs 225 a month; ad hoc grant extra |
| Post-matric ST | Hosteller Group I Rs 1,200 a month (GoI rate) plus a state top-up; day scholar Rs 550 down to Rs 230 a month; up to 10 months |
There’s one timing catch for SC students. The portal notes that, under central guidelines, 40% of the eligible amount is paid in the first phase and the remaining 60% later, for both pre-matric and post-matric SC scholarships. A partial first credit isn’t an error.
How Payment Works
OASIS pays only through Aadhaar-based Direct Benefit Transfer on the NPCI mapper. If your bank account isn’t seeded with Aadhaar, the payment fails even when the application is approved. The portal advises that if your Aadhaar isn’t available in NPCI, you should contact your bank branch within 7 days and check the account’s “DBT enabled status”. It also links NPCI’s Bharat Aadhaar Seeding Enabler for checking and seeding online. Our note on the importance of direct benefit transfers explains why every scholarship now runs this way.
How to Check OASIS Scholarship Status
The home page carries a Track an application link, and your own login shows where the application stands after you lock it. Choose your district when prompted, as you did at registration. When this guide was checked, the tracking panel showed a maintenance message, so if it’s down, log in through Registered Student’s Log In or ask your institution, which sees the approval stage directly.
Read the status in order: your institution approves first, then the block or municipal level and the district offices process it, and payment follows through DBT. If the status shows approved but no money has arrived, the bank account’s Aadhaar seeding is the first thing to check.
Renewal and Last Date
Students already on the scheme use Renew Scholarship under Students Corner instead of registering again. The renewal user manual link on the portal wasn’t working when this guide was checked, so follow the on-screen steps after choosing your district, and keep your earlier registration details handy.
The portal says the 2026-27 application window is open for all seven schemes, but its home page doesn’t print a closing date. Watch the announcements box on oasis.wb.gov.in and your institution’s notice board for the OASIS scholarship last date, and don’t wait for it, because institutional approval takes time after you submit.
Common Errors and Their Fixes
These are the problems that come up again and again:
- Caste certificate not found at registration. Enter the number and issuing date exactly as printed, and confirm the certificate is in the state database.
- Aadhaar mismatch. Correct your name, birth year or gender in Aadhaar first with our Aadhaar card update online guide, then apply.
- No OTR. Complete both NSP steps, including the face scan; a reference number alone isn’t an OTR.
- Need to change a locked form. It can’t be edited. Check every field at the preview step before locking.
- Payment failed after approval. Get your account Aadhaar-seeded and DBT-enabled at the bank.
- Applied for two scholarships. OASIS allows one application per candidate, so choose one scholarship before you lock the form.

OASIS Scholarship Today
Two changes shape the current OASIS cycle. The first is the move of centrally sponsored scholarships onto state portals: the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment’s July 2022 letter asked that registration and applications for the post-matric SC scheme be done on states’ own portals, which is why OASIS, not the NSP, is where West Bengal students apply. The second is the NSP OTR with face authentication, which the portal now requires before an OASIS application and which the Ministry of Tribal Affairs has made mandatory for ST students.
Other states run their own versions of this system; compare our guides to MahaDBT in Maharashtra and the UP scholarship portal. For West Bengal’s school-side portal, see our Banglar Shiksha portal guide.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the OASIS scholarship?
OASIS, or Online Application for Scholarship in Studies, is the West Bengal government’s scholarship portal for SC, ST and OBC students, run by the Backward Classes Welfare and Tribal Development departments. It covers pre-matric scholarships for Classes IX and X and post-matric scholarships from Class XI onward.
Who is eligible for the OASIS scholarship?
SC, ST and OBC students who are permanent residents of West Bengal, study in India and have a family income of up to Rs 2,50,000 a year can apply. They must have passed the previous year’s exam, hold their own bank account and apply for no other scholarship at the same time.
Is NSP OTR required for the OASIS scholarship?
Yes. The portal asks students to generate a One-Time Registration number on the National Scholarship Portal before applying, and the Ministry of Tribal Affairs has made it mandatory for ST students. The OTR needs Aadhaar e-KYC and a face scan on the NSP OTR app.
How much is the OASIS scholarship amount for UG students?
It depends on category and course group. Under the department’s chart, post-matric OBC students get Rs 20,000 a year in Group A down to Rs 5,000 in Group D, while post-matric SC students get maintenance of up to Rs 13,500 a year as hostellers plus fees subject to capping. ST students get monthly rates with a state top-up.
How can I check my OASIS scholarship status?
Use the Track an application link on the home page or log in through Registered Student’s Log In with your Application ID, password and district. If the tracking panel is under maintenance, your institution can confirm the approval stage.
Why is my OASIS scholarship payment not credited?
The most common reason is that the bank account is not seeded with Aadhaar on the NPCI mapper or is not DBT enabled. Contact your bank branch, since the portal pays only through Aadhaar-based transfer. SC students should also note that only 40% is paid in the first phase.
What is the last date for the OASIS scholarship?
The portal shows the 2026-27 application window as open but does not print a closing date on its home page. Follow the announcements on oasis.wb.gov.in and your institution’s notices, and apply early because institutional approval takes time.
How do I renew my OASIS scholarship?
Existing scholars use the Renew Scholarship option under Students Corner instead of registering again. Choose your district and follow the renewal steps on screen with your earlier registration details ready.
What is the OASIS scholarship helpline number?
The portal lists 8420023311 as its helpline and grievance redressal number and bcwoasis at gmail.com as its email.
