Background: What is SRI?

The System of Rice Intensification (SRI) is a set of agronomic practices for increasing the productivity of irrigated rice. It was developed in Madagascar in the 1980s by Father Henri de Laulanié and popularised globally by Cornell University's SRI-Rice programme. SRI is a low-water, low-input, knowledge-intensive method that uses younger seedlings, wider spacing, and intermittent irrigation rather than continuous flooding.

Integrate SRI with flagship schemes: PMKSY — Per Drop More Crop, Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY), National Mission on Sustainable Agriculture (NMSA), and National Mission on Natural Farming (NMNF).
