अनिवार्य हिंदी प्रश्नपत्र क्वालिफाइंग है, पर इसे हल्के में लेना महँगा पड़ता है। 300 अंकों का यह पत्र व्याकरण, गद्यांश, संक्षेपण, पत्र-लेखन, निबंध और अनुवाद की शुद्धता जाँचता है।
यहाँ नंबर विषय-ज्ञान से नहीं, भाषा की शुद्धता और स्पष्टता से मिलते हैं। सामान्य अशुद्धियाँ — वर्तनी, कारक, लिंग, वाक्य-विन्यास — ही सबसे अधिक अंक काटती हैं, और यही सबसे आसानी से सुधरती भी हैं।
व्याकरण के नियम, हल किए गए उदाहरण, सामान्य अशुद्धियाँ और अभ्यास प्रश्न — सब यहाँ क्रम से दिए गए हैं।

Main Examination — Indian Language (Compulsory, qualifying)
- The aim of the paper is to test the candidates’ ability to read and understand serious discursive prose, and to express their ideas clearly and correctly in the language concerned. The pattern of questions is broadly:
- Comprehension of given passages.
- Précis Writing.
- Usage and Vocabulary.
- Short Essays.
- Translation from English to the Indian Language and vice-versa.
